HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT?
The evening course is taught in small groups (no more than 10 people). The workshop will start with an intensive one hour tutorial after which you will head into the streets to put into practice your new found knowledge. The photo walk will start in Spitalfields and wind it's way through Bishopsgate, the City and to the South Bank. You will learn how to make use of the light around you, the way the you see it, and perhaps more importantly how you want your audience to see it. The small numbers allow for discreet street photography and personalised tuition.

Everyone will gain something regardless of his/her specific approach or technical level. The workshop will combine concise classroom tuition and outdoor adventures, with an emphasis on putting into practice the skills gained immediately - supported by helpful guidance, care and attention.

You will carry out a number of challenges designed to exercise different techniques, practice new skills and encourage creative experimentation.

View the full course outline - please note, this is a guide and if some material is not covered on the evening it will be found in the course notes provided.

WHO WILL BE TEACHING THE COURSE?
You will be in the capable hands of our very own Toby Smith who has been judge, photographer and technical manager of all things Shoot Experience from the beginning. Toby has seven years of experience behind the lens in both contemporary and commercial fields.
In 2009 he visited Madagascar three times when a personal project on illegal timber snowballed into an international investigation partnering with Global Witness, EIA and assigned by GEO Magazine. The resulting project, after a legal embargo, was published across 18 pages and exhibited at the Barbican in April 2010. Images and efforts of the investigation are linked to the recent investigation and seizure of Gibson Guitars by Federal Agents. Undercover footage will also form components of upcoming US and UK TV features.
He manages a Photography studio in East London and has taught practical photography everywhere from East Africa to the East Midlands.
