We chose the winning photo because we felt it was a deep and thoughtful interpretation of a major catastrophe that had a big impact in the UK in recent years, but by the same token, highlights a disaster risk that threatens many places in the world. The photo conjures a striking feeling of humankind's vulnerability in the face of nature's unbeatable force.
The photograph highlights the basic human right to shelter and the right to live in safety.

Shoot Experience is proud to be working with the British Council (Colombia) to bring you this super exciting photography competition.
We want to know what people in the UK think about Human Rights.
Human rights is a key issue in Colombia and this competition represents the UK arm of a Colombian based photography competition.
THE BRIEF
We want to remove "usual" and "normal" perceptions of words and law that define and surround Human Rights.
We would like you to answer the question 'What are Human Rights?' in such a way that will allow us to overcome the limitations of the traditional debate articulated through words and concepts.
One issue with Human Rights is that it has become a specialist matter, distanced from the needs and concerns of the average citizen.
We encourage you to see past the comfortable bubble within which many of us spend our lives, and to pay attention to the deeper idea of what Human Rights mean in a UK context.
Whether it be the right to a roof over your head or the right be able to afford that roof over your head - take photos to inspire, reflect, document or change...
